Time: 08:00 AM Event Location & Address: Canadian Blood Services Head Office 1800 Alta Vista Drive Ottawa, Ontario K1G 4J5 Hosting Organization: Canadian Blood Services Event Description: During NAOSH 2009 Canadian Blood Services initiated and event called “ NAOSH Commitment Banner , Cross Country Tour”. The idea was to get as many Canadian Blood Services’ employees to show their commitment to Health and Safety and to affirm the importance of the Internal Responsibility System by signing the banner. With an opening ceremony at our Head Office in Ottawa, the cross country tour began. Over the next year the banner was circulated through our 40 plus site across Canada giving all employees the opportunity to sign the banner. For NAOSH 2010 the banner will have made it way back to Head Office. On May 3, 2010, a ceremony will be hosted where a Senior official of Canadian Blood Services will present the signed banner and speak to success of the Commitment Banner’s cross country tour and the importance of safety at Canadian Blood Services. The opening event will include a breakfast, the raising of the NAOSH flag, and a presentation to the Executive Management Team of the “NAOSH 2009 Scrap Book”. The scrap book will consist of a compilation of pictures, articles, and messages that made up NAOSH 2009 and the commitment banners cross country tour. National NAOSH 2010 celebrations will include: 1.Static display boards promoting NAOSH and the 2009 Cross Country tour with an activity “Spot the Safety Differences"; and 2.Site specific events. Poster contest for the Montfort Hospital employees' children |

Four age group categories have been determined and prizes will be awarded to the winners of each category. The employees and visitors will have the chance to judge the posters by ballots for each category. The name of the winners and their posters will be published in the monthly hospital paper. More specifically we will have: three local fitness centres to promote physical fitness, a variety of brochures on being active and healthy as a family, and general tourism information on the Ottawa region. Internally from the Montfort Hospital we will have a nutritionist, a nurse from the infection control, the manager of the equipment sterilization department, and the hospital health and safety committee. Finally, we will have a representative from the Ontario anti-poison centre, a representative of the employee assistance program (Shepell-fgi), and testing procedures for N95 and full face mask with the Portacount machine. This day honours years of Safe Driving without a preventable crash, years of Safe Working without a preventable compensable injury and Employees of the Year recognition awards. J D Smith operates 24 hours. The celebrations will start at 06:00 hrs and end at 20:00 hours so that all employees on all shifts can participate. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Safe Awards pins and crests are in conjunction with the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario recognition program. Workers and Drivers that achieve 10 year plus of safe performance also receive plaques, trophies and other incentives at every 5 year incremental milestone. Twenty-five year recipients receive a leather jacket. We have Truck Drivers that have achieved 40 years of safe driving. Oakville, Ontario Hosting Organization: Regional Municipality of Halton Event Description: We are hosting a Health and Safety Expo and have invited each of our 8 Joint Health and Safety Committees, our health and safety suppliers, a number of community organizations and our Wellness and Values Committees to set up displays in our auditorium. The event will begin with open ceremonies including an address by our Chief of Police and the Chief Administrative Officer for Halton Region. 3 of our exhibitors will be running fitness demonstrations on a rotational basis throughout the day's event including a physiotherapy demonstration, and an opportunity to participate in Zumba classes and Cardio Core Boot Camp. The Regional Chair, Gary Carr will also address staff and award a prize during the course of the day. Staff from over 50 sites around Halton Region are encouraged to participate by setting up Health and Safety Displays in their own work locations. Prizes will be awarded to the most effective display. Our theme this year is Don't Clown Around with Safety. Exhibitors have been encouraged to set up interactive displays that reflect a carnival atmosphere. By answering health and safety questions related to the display staff will have an opportunity to play a carnival game and win a prize. We run this event every 2nd year alternating it with a Health and Safety Roadshow where the Joint Health and Safety Committee members visit each site around the Region with baskets full of Health and Safety Information and goodies. Employees received a personal Poker Challenge Tracking Card in advance with space on the card to answer questions about the above-noted selected topics. On Friday, May 7th, there will be two sessions offered (one in the morning, one in the afternoon at one of our locations). Employees have been invited to bring their completed Scorecard with them to exchange it for poker cards (maximum cards is 8/person). There will be great prizes for all!
